Built in 1859, Lee Hall Mansion is one of the last large pre-Civil War plantation houses remaining in Virginia. Located on high ground in the northwest outskirts of Newport News, the mansion's natural viewpoint made it an ideal Confederate headquarters during the war. It was restored by the city in 1996, and turned into a museum; visitors can tour the house's seven rooms and grounds, or attend one of the lectures offered there throughout the year.
