Owned by an African-American lawyer, the child of former slaves, the Newsome House Museum & Cultural Center was the residence of J. Thomas Newsome and his family beginning in 1906. Newsome was a highly respected area lawyer and the beautiful, Queen Anne-styled home is as famous for its architectural beauty as its inhabitants. Inside the home, exhibits on influential African-Americans and the history of the Hampton Roads area are displayed, providing a wider look into local history. Located in the historic East End of Newport News, the home is surrounded by other beautiful residences.
